Case Summary

In August 2005, the EEOC district office in Detroit, Michigan brought this action against Home Deport USA, Inc. and Expo Design Center, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it refused to accommodate an employee's religious beliefs, which led to his discharge for failing to attend work on Sundays.

After a failed defense motion for summary judgment the parties settled and a consent decree was entered in May 2007. The defendant defendant agreed to pay the aggrieved party $25,157.21 and refrain from retaliating and discriminating on the basis of religion. The terms of the agreement run for two years. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
