Case Summary
In March 2001, the EEOC district office in Indianapolis, Indiana brought this suit against SuperValu Holdings, Inc., a wholesale foods and wharehousing firm, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. Although the complaint is unavailable, the EEOC annual report states that there was a class of twenty-two women who alleged they were being paid less than male coworkers. After a few scheduling and status conferences were held, the parties settled the case. A consent decree was entered in January 2002. This decree required the defendant to: pay $400,000 to the class of 22 claimants, post notice of Non-Discrimination, provide training to all supervisors, and to pay female employees on a basis equal to males. This decree has a term of two years.
