Case Summary

In September 2002, the EEOC district office in Dallas, Texas brought this suit against 24-Hour Professional Janitorial Services in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it failed to hire the two charging parties because of their race. After some initial discovery and a failed EEOC discovery motion to quash, the parties settled and a consent decree was entered in January 2005.

In the consent decree, the litigants agreed that the defendant would pay each complainant $15,000, provide EEO training to its area managers, and distribute an EEO notice and its anti-discrimination policy in employee paycheck envelopes. The terms of the decree ran for one year. No fees or costs were awarded.
