Case Summary

The Chicago District Office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, against U-Haul International, Inc. and U-Haul Of Illinois, Inc. The complaint, filed in September 2004, alleged race discrimination and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, specifically that Defendant had discriminated against the charging party by suspending him and demoting him because of his race and then terminated him for complaining about race discrimination. The case went to trial in January 2006 and after a three day trial the jury returned a verdict for the Defendants.
