In February 2002 the Washington, D.C. office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ikon Office Solutions, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. In its complaint the EEOC alleged that the defendant discriminated against black employees by paying them less than similarly-qualified white employees. The case was settled in March 2002 by the entry of a consent decree.
In the three-year consent decree, a sole charging party was awarded $3,000. The defendant was required to refrain from discriminatory practices and to post notice of equal employment rights. Additionally, the defendant was required to provide anti-discrimination training to its management, maintain records of job applicants, and report to the EEOC on an annual basis.
