In August 2004, the Detroit District Office of the EEOC filed this suit against Billy Bob's Gameroom Furnishings, Incorporated in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan alleging discrimination on the basis of race and national origin in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the defendant paid the charging party and other African American and Hispanic employees at wages lower than Caucasians. In addition, the defendant refused to hire qualified African Americans for positions as drivers. In November 2004, the EEOC filed a motion for default judgment which was left unresolved. The clerk entered default in January 2005. In February 2005, the EEOC filed another motion for default judgment which was granted in February 2005. The judgment awarded the plaintiffs $92,117.
