The Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Recon Refractory and Construction, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in July 2004. According to the consent decree, the complaint alleged sex discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Recon allegedly failed to hire women because of their sex. The parties notified the court of settlement in November 2004, and they entered into a consent decree in October 2005. The consent decree required the defendant to pay the charging party and similarly situated individuals $165,000. It also required training on equal employment laws, reporting, record retention, notice posting, hiring an outside consultant to ensure compliance with the decree on projects with more than 100 employees, and a hiring goal for female laborers.

The decree was entered in October 2005 and scheduled to last until April 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
