Case Summary

The New York District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Trans World Airlines, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in June 1998. While the complaint is unavailable, an EEOC press release states that the defendant allegedly violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 through sexual harassment and retaliation. Four complainants intervened in the case, which was consolidated with another EEOC case (EEOC v. Trans World Airlines, Inc., 1:98-cv-04138 (E.D.N.Y. 2002)). After numerous settlement conferences with Magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak, the parties reached a settlement in July 2001. TWA was required to pay $2.6 million, 1.1 million of which would be placed into a Claim Fund. TWA was also required to aid the EEOC in identifying other claimants.
