Case Summary

In April 2002, the St. Louis District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against RadioShack Corporation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the consent decree that the complaint alleged discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In July 2002, the charging party intervened in the suit. After some scheduling orders, the EEOC and the defendant settled through a consent decree in December 2002. The charging party and the defendant settled their remaining claims in later that month, voluntarily dismissing the case.

The two-year decree between the EEOC and the defendant contained non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses and required the defendant to: post EEO notices and posters, provide sexual harassment training for all its St. Louis area employees, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, agree not to employ the charging party's harasser at any of its stores, and pay $45,000 to the charging party.
