In May 2006, the New York District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, alleging discrimination on the basis of gender, female, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the complaining party by denying the complainant modified work assignments and placing her on involuntary leave due to the complainant's pregnancy. Following some discovery, the parties settled the lawsuit in August 2007 through a consent decree.
The three-year decree, containing anti-discrimination and retaliation provisions, required the defendant to: make compliance reports, allow the EEOC access for monitoring, post and distribute notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, and pay $49,000 to the complaining party. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2010.
