Case Summary

In May 2001, the Oklahoma City (along with the Dallas) office of the EEOC brought this Title VII suit against Crest Discount Foods, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. The complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against by refusing to hire the claimant because of his race (black). The case settled by entry of a consent decree in December 2001.

The two year consent decree required the defendant to refrain from discrimination and retaliation, post and distribute notice, provide Racial Discrimination Training to all of its employees, permit an EEOC Investigator to have access to the defendant's premises, give the EEOC a quarterly analysis of the race/ethnicity composition of its new hires, pay the claimant $50,000, and give the EEOC a report of compliance.
