Case Summary

In May 2005, the Dallas District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Renaissance III Organization in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas alleging discrimination on the basis of race, African-American, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In May 2005, the Dallas District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Renaissance III Organization in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas alleging discrimination on the basis of race, African-American, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant allow a racially hostile work environment to be maintained. Following discovery, referral to mediation, and submission of a summary judgment motion by the EEOC, the parties settled the lawsuit through a consent decree in July 2006.

The three-year-decree required the defendant to pay the complaining parties $200,000, and if the defendant restarted the business, the defendant would: make compliance reports to the EEOC, not provide a specified individual with a leadership role in the new company, post and distribute notice of employee rights and provide EEO training. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
