In November 2003, the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against EZ Buy EZ Sell Recycler in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the consent decree that the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the three charging parties, female employees, by subjecting them to a hostile work environment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. With little other action in the case, the parties settled in early December 2003 through a consent decree.
The two-year decree, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to: post a notice of the decree, provide annual Title VII training for all its employees, keep records of relevant documents, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, and pay $380,000 to be divided among the three charging parties.
