Case Summary

The Miami Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Marine Bank of the Florida Keys in July 2001 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida (Key West). The complaint alleged that Marine Bank intentionally discriminated against two women and other similarly situated individuals on the basis of sex and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After granting the two complainants' motion to intervene, the District Court Judge ordered mediation between the parties. A consent decree was entered in January 2003.

The consent decree is unavailable. However, a press release from the EEOC stated that the consent decree required Marine Bank to implement annual training for all of its facilities in the state of Florida for both management and supervisory employees, a laminated notice posting, and semi-annual monitoring reports. Marine Bay agreed to pay the two complainants a total of $220,000.
