In September 2004, the Houston District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Slick Willies of America, Inc. and related businesses in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The complaint alleged that the defendants discriminated against the charging party, a male applicant, and other male applicants by failing to recruit and hire them because of their sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The parties submitted a proposed consent decree on the same day that the lawsuit was filed. The consent decree was signed four days later, settling the case.
The two-year decree, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to post a Title VII notice, provide Title VII training for all its employees involved in hiring and recruiting, report to the EEOC on an annual basis, and pay $49,000.
