Case Summary

In September 2004 the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against airline employee provider World Service West L.A. In September 2004 the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against airline employee provider World Service West L.A. Inflight Service Company LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California alleging discrimination on the basis of sex, female, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, the Order Re: Cross-Motions for Summary Judgment indicate the defendant allegedly discriminated against the complainants, female employees, by permitting a sexually hostile work environment and retaliated against a complaining party based upon her opposition to these practices. Following discovery and several status conferences and postponements of trial, the parties settled the lawsuit through a consent decree in October 2007.

The three-year decree, containing agreements not to harass or retaliate, required the defendant to: report on complaints and make other compliance reports, keep records, hire an internal monitor, develop an anti-discrimination policy, post and distribute notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, implement a complaint resolution process, alter manager evaluations to include compliance with anti-discrimination policies, and pay $150,000 to be distributed at the EEOC's sole discretion. The docket sheet does not show further enforcement took place; so the case was presumably closed in 2010.
