On September 27, 2007, the EEOC, on behalf of a female job applicant, filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina against West Roofing Systems-Georgia Inc. alleging the company had engaged in unlawful employment practices on the basis of sex by failing to hire the charging party based on her sex, female, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1991.
On July 25, 2008, the court (Judge Joseph F. Anderson Jr.) approved a consent decree in favor of the plaintiff. The three year decree provided $12,000 in damages and enjoined the defendant from engaging in discrimination. Additionally, the decree set forth anti-retaliation provisions, required posting of EEO policy in the workplace, and a revamped hiring procedure.
The decree was entered in 2007 and scheduled to last 2010. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
