Case Summary

The EEOC's Chicago district office sued Town & Country Credit Corporation on April 20, 2006 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act when it discriminated based on age by creating a hostile work environment and demoting the complainant. The parties entered into a consent decree on October 5, 2006, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainant $70,000 in damages, and, if the defendant ever restarted business: post a notice of compliance with Title VII, provide Title VII training, maintain records of age discrimination, allow the EEOC to enter the premises to review documents and interview employees, and report complaints of age discrimination to the EEOC semiannually. The settlement term was 2 years. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
