On September 28, 2004, the EEOC filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 on behalf of an aggrieved employee. The EEOC claimed that Defendant, Sheng-Raamco Management, Inc., unlawfully retaliated against the employee because of her opposition to Defendant's discriminatory employment practices believed to be unlawful under Title VII. The EEOC sought injunctive and monetary relief.
The District Court (Judge Sidney Allen Fitzwater) on December 5th, 2005 approved a settlement between the parties under a consent decree. Under the decree, Defendant is generally enjoined from engaging in discrimination or retaliation in violation of Title VII. Defendant is also required to revise its policies and complaint procedures regarding Title VII, as well as to conduct a one-hour training session on the policies for all of its employees. Further, Defendant agreed to pay $35,000 in monetary damages to the aggrieved employee. The decree was to remain in effect for a period of two years.
