Case Summary

In September 2005, the Baltimore office of the EEOC filed suit against RRR Bowie, LLC, dba Toyota of Bowie, a Maryland car dealership. The complaint was brought in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland; it alleged that the defendant had failed to hire an African-American job applicant because of his race, and had terminated two African-American employees because of their race. After some disputes over discovery and a failed motion by the defendant for summary judgment, the case was resolved via a consent decree in April of 2008. A total of $202,000 was awarded to the spurned job applicant and one of the terminated employees. The defendant was ordered to implement equal employment training for employees involved in certain personnel decision-making and to post an EEO notice. The settlement term was 3 years. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2011.
