Case Summary

In September 2004, the Baltimore District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against New York Fashions in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland alleging discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant subjected the charging party, a female employee, to a sexually hostile work environment and retaliated against her by terminating her because of her complaints of the discrimination and her pregnancy. The charging party intervened in the suit in October 2004. After discovery revelations led the EEOC to conclude that their case was not strong enough, the suit was voluntarily dismissed in June 2005.
