The Defendant was Virco Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer and supplier of furniture and equipment for K-12 schools. The controversy involved the alleged harassment of an employee based on his national origin (Mexican) in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The lawsuit was filed in September 1997 and was eventually resolved by voluntary settlement - first in June of 1998 with the complainant, and then in July 1998 with the EEOC.
