In September 2004, the EEOC's Houston office filed this suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas against Sapark Enterprises, LLC d/b/a Ramada Inn Pasadena alleging violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the EEOC alleged that defendant had, through its agents, a manager and supervisor at a Ramada Inn motel, subjected a class of females to sexual harassment that resulted in a loss of their equal employment opportunity and their constructive discharge. The defendant filed a counter-claim in October 2004 for costs and attorney's fees. Later, however, the parties came to an agreement in a consent decree that was adopted by the court in January 2006. Despite the fact that defendant had divested itself of ownership in any hotels or motels, the decree provided that, if the defendant, during the three-year term of the consent decree, gains control of any hotels or motels, it must develop an anti-discrimination policy and disseminate it to all employees. The decree also ordered the defendant to pay $30,000 to satisfy the claims of two complainants and an unknown number of female class members. The settlement term was 3 years. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
