In October 1999, the claimant, along with the Seattle office of the EEOC brought this Title VII and EPA suit against Unified Investigations and Sciences, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The EEOC filed a separate suit (2:00-cv-00069) in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in January 2000. The court consolidated that case with the lead case (2:99-cv-01676)in March 2000. The complaint alleged that the defendant engaged in a pattern or practice of discriminating against women (including the claimant). More specifically, the defendant paid the claimant less than her male counterparts, subjected the claimant to tangible employment action because of her sex, and discharged her in retaliation for her complaint. The case settled by entry of a consent decree in March 2001.

The three year consent decree required the defendant to pay a sum of $125,000 to the claimant and other aggrieved female applicants, refrain from discrimination and retaliation, create and implement a discrimination policy and complaint procedure, provide anti-discrimination for Officers, Territorial Managers, and other employees, use fair and equitable policies in the future when hiring male and female applicants, post notice, expunge the record of the claimant, retain CNA Unisource as an Administrator of the decree, and make semi-annual reports to the EEOC on compliance and complaints.
