In September 1998, the EEOC district office in Detroit, Michigan brought this suit against Young's, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The complaint is currently unavailable. The consent decree states that the aggrieved former employee, a male, alleged unlawful racially based harassment and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the former employee alleged he was terminated after complaining of the alleged racial harassment. After one year and three months with virtually no actions by either party, a consent decree was entered in January 2000.

In the decree, the parties agreed that the defendant would (1) not discriminate or retaliate on the basis of race, (2) expunge all employment records of references to this litigation, (3) issue a neutral reference letter for the former employee, (4) provide EEO training for employees, (5) post EEO notices, and (6) pay the former employee $8,500 for back pay.
