Case Summary

In September 2003, the EEOC district office in Baltimore, Maryland brought this suit against the Duclaw Brewing Company of Arundel Hills, LLC, a regional brewery and restaurant chain, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. The complaint alleged that the defendant's managers, upon being appraised of an employee's pregnancy, subjected her to meritless disciplinary warning, threatened demotion, reduced working hours, and ultimately terminated her for complaining about the discrimination. After failed motions for summary judgment by both parties, a consent decree was entered in December 2004.

In the consent decree, the parties agreed the the defendant would pay the aggrieved former employee $20,000, refrain from retaliating or discriminating on the basis of sex, provide EEO training to its employees, and immediately post EEO notices.
