The EEOC sued Good Samaritan Community Healthcare and Puyallup Professional Associates, d/b/a Good Samaritan Surgery Center, on August 16, 2001 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The EEOC's complaint is unavailable, however the consent decree, entered on December 19, 2001, alleges that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated against its employees based on sex (female) by providing a hostile work environment leading to the constructive discharge or retaliatory discharge of numerous employees. The consent decree stipulated that the defendant would pay $170,000 in damages to be divided among eligible class members, expunge the affected employees' employment records and provide them with neutral references, post and distribute a notice of EEO rights, provide Title VII compliance training, implement a new complaint/dispute resolution process, appoint a harassment consultant, and report compliance with the consent decree and harassment complaints semiannually to the EEOC.
