In March 2004, the Seattle office of the EEOC brought this Title VII suit against Trendwest Resorts, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The complaint alleged that the defendant, a timeshare resort company, discriminated against the claimant, and others similarly situated, by altering the terms and conditions of employment for female employees by depriving them of employment opportunities, such as promotions. The case settled by consent decree in June 2004.
The two year consent decree requireD the defendant to retain an outside consultant, refrain from discrimination and retaliation, pay $475,000 into a settlement pool for potential class members, strengthen its anti-discrimination policy, create and strengthen its internal complaint/dispute resolution procedure, expunge claimants' records, provide neutral references for claimants, create a policy designed to promote supervisor accountability, provide anti-discrimination training for all employees, give the EEOC semi annual reports of complaints of sex discrimination, and post notice.
