Case Summary

In September 2005 the New York district office of the EEOC brought this suit against Richmond of New York d/b/a Richmond's Children Center in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. In its complaint the EEOC alleged that the defendant discriminated against four charging parties because they were African-American. The discriminatory treatment included failure to promote, disparate discipline, reduction of hours, and termination.

The case was settled by the entry of a consent decree in September 2006. In the three-year decree, the charging parties were awarded $400,000.00. Additionally, the defendant was required to provide anti-discrimination training to its employees and distribute copies of its anti-discrimination policy. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
