EEOC's Dallas, Texas office brought suit against the defendant, I-20 Animal Medical Center PC in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas on 09/30/1998. The EEOC alleged on behalf of a class of complainants that I-20 subjected employees affiliated with a different religion to disparate terms and conditions. It was claimed that I-20 required employees to engage in certain religious activities in order to get promotion or keep other employment benefits. It was alleged that I-20 failed to reasonably accommodate the complainants' religious beliefs. It was further alleged that I-20 retaliated against employees who refused to participate in the religious activities, including relegating them to lesser tasks, termination and/or constructive discharge.

The complainants did not intervene in the suit. The parties settled four days before the scheduled jury trial date and a three-year consent decree resolved the suit.

The consent decree provided $150,000 in lump sum to the class of complainants without specifying the amount for each individual. I-20 would expunge the record of this litigation from the individuals' personnel files. Under the decree, I-20 was enjoined from discriminating and retaliating against employees based on religion. It was also required to provide Title VII training to all employees and post its EEO policy for an indefinite period of time.
