In September 2000, the Seattle District Office of the EEOC filed this cause of action against International Line Builders alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 by discriminating on the basis of sex. Specifically, the charging party, a female employee, was subjected to a hostile work environment resulting in her constructive discharge. In addition, the defendant retaliated against the charging party by refusing to rehire her as a result of her earlier complaints of sexual harassment. The case was settled in March 2001 through a consent decree with a duration of two years and sixty days. The decree contained a non-retaliation clause and required the defendant to: pay the charging party $52,000; develop a written EEO policy; post an EEOC provided notice regarding Title VII discrimination; provide annual Title VII training for its managers; and report to the EEOC on its progress at specified intervals.
