In September 2006, the Saint Louis District Office and Kansas City Area Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against the dealership Best Buy Here Pay Here, L.L.C., Best Motor CompanyLeasing, Inc., and Bryan Hunt, doing business as Best Buy Here Pay Here in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri alleging discrimination on the basis of gender in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged the defendant subjected the complainant to a sexually hostile work environment and terminated her employment following opposition to the practice. The complaining party intervened in the lawsuit in November 2006. Following dismissal of two of the parties to the lawsuit and some discovery, the remaining parties settled the lawsuit in September 2007 through a consent decree. The three-year decree, containing anti-discrimination and retaliation provisions, required the defendant to: report on complaints and make other compliance reports, allow the EEOC access for monitoring, provide a neutral reference for the complainant, post and distribute notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, terminate a specified individual, and pay $29,000 to the complainant and her attorney. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2010.
