The San Antonio District Office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, against Williamson County Cablevision Company. The complaint, filed in September 2003, alleged national origin discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the Defendant had discharged the charging party, who was Hispanic, for being arrested, when numerous white employees had not been discharged after having been convicted of crimes.
In October 203, the parties jointly entered a consent decree. The decree, which was valid until June 17, 2004, required the Defendant to pay the charging party $1,000, to post a non-discrimination notice, to expunge the charging party's employment records, and to provide the charging party with a neutral employment reference.
