The Houston District Office of the EEOC filed this suit against U-Haul Co. of North Texas, in September of 2004, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The suit alleged a violation of Title VII for discrimination based on sex and retaliation for complaining of such discrimination. The female employees were subject to sexual advances from their boss as well as major pay difference from their male counterparts. Ultimately the suit was settled via a consent decree. The terms of the settlement included injunctive as well as monetary relief. U-Haul is not allowed to discriminate based on sex or retaliate against any employee for filing a complaint about discrimination. They also must retain all application records for a year and be willing to have the EEOC inspect them as the EEOC deems necessary. In addition they are to keep all files from employees who file complaints for up to a year after the alleged discrimination or until the complainant or EEOC determines the case closed. The monetary relief granted was a judgment of $25,000 against U-Haul, and it is unclear how that is divided up amongst the complainants. The decree was entered in 2005 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
