Case Summary
In June 2004, the Los Angeles District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Western Casework Corporation in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada alleging that the defendant subjected the charging parties, Hispanic employees, and other similarly situated individuals to a hostile work environment because of their national origin in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The charging parties intervened in the suit in September 2004. After some scheduling orders, the parties settled in July 2005 through a consent decree.
The three-year decree, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to: post a notice of the decree, hire an EEO consultant, provide EEO training for all its employees, revise and distribute its anti-discrimination policy, implement a complaint procedure, maintain relevant records, provide the charging parties with neutral employment references, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, and pay $600,000. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
